08 Joint Design Nº 473

I worked on the right carving wax ear today. I did not make a note of it yesterday, but before I started working on hollowing out the ears, I scribed a new line inside the small semi-circle I made. If I had cut the matte board template that small, I would have cut off the straight pin hole. Also, yesterday I used the wax pen to hollow out the ear. Today I am trying out the small U-gouge, from the set of five small woodcarving tools that I got from Michaels. Anyway, at this point, I have the front of the ears roughed out, more or less the same. Even though these ears are going to be very stylized, I am also going to carve out the back of the ears. If it does not work out, I can always fill them back in and try again. This is one of the things I really like about modeling clays and waxes. When sculpting wood or stone, if I take too much away, it's oops. Click on any image to enlarge it.
