09 Plaster Production Molds Nº 24

I made the build up for the toe piece of the mold today. I started out by cutting out a cereal box cardboard template with a pair of scissors. I just kept trimming until it fit. Then I placed a square against the sides and scribed a line to get the length. Click on any image to enlarge it.

I placed the cardboard template on a 0.5 inch thick slab of oil-clay and cut it out. There is a small space around the foot that will need filling.

The foot slants up, so I tapered the build-up behind the front so it would fit over the foot.

I cut some registration keys.

I fixed some supports behind the build-up.

Finally, I filled-in around the foot.

This should be ready to place the coddles around it to pour the next piece. I will apply a soap parting agent right before I place the coddles.
