09 Plaster Production Molds Nº 278

I cut this oil clay coddle out of the build-up slab I used for the second mold piece. These are snapshots of the coddle from a couple of different angles. Click on any image to enlarge it.

Plaster Arithmetic:

1.75 Dia. x 2.5 Height = arm socket build-up

radius of arm socket build-up
r=0.875

area of arm socket build-up
pi*r^2
2.40526

volume of arm socket build-up
(pi*r^2)*2.5
6.01315

3.00 Dia. x 1.5 Height = mold piece handle

radius of mold piece handle
r=1.5

area of mold piece handle
(pi*r^2)
7.06857

volume of mold piece handle
(pi*r^2)*1.5
10.60285

arm socket and handle volume added together
6.01315+10.60285
16.61600 cu.in.

two thirds of total volume equals amount of water needed
16.61600*.67
11.13272

cups of water needed
11.13272/14.44
.77096

ounces of water needed
.77096*8
6.16768

one part of water by weight
6.16768/2
3.08384

mold consistency
6/9
.66666

I will need 6 ounces of water and 9 ounces of plaster.
